Andrew H Keep Awake is a meditation on rock and roll for this new decade. The dragging grunge and shoegaze elements clash with the metal elements in the same songs, but it all makes sense in the dark breakdowns and solos: hard post-rock feels more sincere these days as a somber lament than a hopeful speedy thrash. The understated vocals add necessary tone and drive, as both chants and screams. The guitar work is great as rhythm and droning equals the solos in driving and bringing meaning to the tracks. Favorite track: Keep Awake.
